Despite the loss of so many houses, the fire fighters have saved so many more. This board is to thank all of the firefighters for putting themselves on the line to save us. The firefighters deserve so much for what they are doing to help us. We can let them know exactly how much it is we appreciate what they have done for us.
After this all ends, we can post all of your comments on the site, so the fire fighters can come home and learn how grateful we are. Please keep your comments on this board positive.
Thanks to "rabbitlady" for the idea for this dedicated board.

From My Heart......"Some gave All"
I have been sitting here with my heart felt thoughts 'n feelings...trying to find the words.....what has happened in Kelowna 'n surrounding area will be something that will always hurt everytime we sit...think.....'n look back. I see the images of the firefighters....I hear their spokesperson Jerry Zimmerman trying to relay the pain the firefighters feel at the loss......the devestation. I hear the words ....see the pictures of the families who lost their homes...their material memories.....The volunteers.....the community as a whole. The Province as a whole coming together. Canadians offering support...The Federal support..... What comes to mind is the words from the song "Some gave All"......(Billy Ray Cyrus) Let this be our offering to the firemen who helped save our homes while losing their own.....the time the effort that everyone has given of to help the community. Praise God........ I am truly in awe 'n humbled....... Karie

Show them how I feel? Ohmigosh where do you even start?!
Thank you thank you thank you. My parent's street at the present time (Sunday) lost homes but not nearly as many that were saved. I look at the map and am blown away that the fire didn't destroy it all. The efforts of all the men and women fighting on the front lines in a very scary situation have redefined the word hero in my mind.
Your courage, skills, effort, dedication, heart, and heroics are not under appreciated. My thoughts are with you and your families. It cannot be easy to send a love one into danger.

I have heard some...perhaps not negative comments regarding our respect for the firefighters, saying that this is " simply their job ". Yes, it is their work but I doubt that the job description reads to battle the occasional firestorm and set up a line of defense to protect an entire city and believe me from what I've heard, seen and read, that is exactly what it was boiling down to. It has been a truly remarkable success given the horrific conditions. These people should be proud of their accomplishment, I am proud of them....Thank-you.

Words cannot express the gratitude my husband and I feel for the brave heroic efforts of all those helping to fight the fires. We are moving to Peachland next month and after 7 long months of trying to sell our house in Calgary, we got an offer. That very same day the fire started. Out hearts sank, the fear and despair set in. Our new house is directly opposite and to see the devastation and witness the loss of all those homes in beautiful Kelowna was heartbreaking. What would Kelowna do without you, we are so, so grateful for all your hard work and our prayers and thoughts are with you daily as well as for all those who have suffered such a great loss. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.
God bless all of you

----from the Interior My daughter , son-in-law and grandson live in Kelowna. Their home was not in the direct path of the fire, but who knew where the fire would go next.
I want to offer my sincere thanks to the firefighters, men and women, who pushed on even when things looked so bleak. You did a great job! I am extremely grateful!
We too are on alert in the south eastern corner of the province and know that the firefighters are working here to keep us all safe as well!

Wow.... Words can't express our appreciation for your dedication hard work and heart felt efforts that you put forth for our saftey and the preservation of our city. You really are our hero's. I can't imagine the courage it takes to stand up to such a monster as this fire. I pray the Lord will watch over you all as I know he already has been. And for a speedy end to this nightmare. Thank you for putting your lives on the line for us. You go out and face this fire on the front lines, you really are worthy of the gratitude of us all. Also a prayer for your families that wait and worry. May you return home safe again soon.

I have had some time to sit back ‘n digest in part the events of the past 10 days. Some of it I will never be able to properly digest ‘n put in to proper perspective. But that’s okay……that’s the quagmire of life! I have watched…….felt…….experienced …..along with thousands of others some form of upset as a result of the destruction that has occurred in Kelowna. The pictures…the words….the emotions…..all run past me like a fast moving picture. I have listened ‘n learnt from all of it. A daily learning lesson …..if you will……. There is NO ONE that has a monopoly on the grief…..the loss……Everyone in some way or another has been affected by it. Yes! Even those who didn’t lose their homes. We have all lost something. This is not a contest as to who lost the most…..Destruction is not selective……. I listen to the voices of the people via the media whether it is via newspaper or television. This is where I feel I must comment: To those that feel the need to criticize the fire fighters: Walk a mile in their shoes…….Would you rather that they had laid themselves down on top of your houses as a buffer between them ‘n the fire? They did that ‘n more. ‘N now as a result of their hard work ‘n fortitude they are at risk of suffering from permanent disabilities. There is no one that will ever be able to make the fire fighters feel worse than they already do. Oh yeah…..there are angels among us!!!!! To the Fire Fighters: There are no words ‘n even if I could find them….they will be inadequate. I think you have seen the display of support for you so I will not re iterate it. But I would like to ask a favor of you……Could you please thank your wives/husbands…..children……parents…..for the great sacrifice they have made so that you can do your job ? To those that do not heed the RCMP: We all must live by "rules". Remember that rules are there to protect us. Probably from ourselves!!!!!! To the Media: Our link……What a thankless task you have. Remember that when you are barraged for more info that it is only because we require the whole truth to get us through. That is why we persist. To those that try to benefit from the devastation: Whether you are trying to achieve fame or profiteering …….Why? It is only for the moment ‘n will not give you life long sustenance. Anything that is done for the wrong reasons will never bring you what you seek to achieve. To the victims………. As a community Kelowna has lost. As a community Kelowna must come together. We need to stay equally yoked. Not segregated into little pods. Rev King from Taber Alberta who lost his son Jason in a high school shooting told the media that his wife ‘n himself were going to be standing outside of the high school the first day of school . He encouraged the students ‘n families to come over to them if they wished as they still required hugs to get them through their loss. Rev King stated that they wanted to "Hug the ugly away". Think about that………………….. I encourage the community as a whole to come together in a public forum so we can all "Hug the ugly Away"…………… Karie

My daughter (11 years old. from Calgary) was away on holidays in Kelowna with her loving Dad when the fire quickly became a frightening headline story. She was there visiting her Grandparents, who live in the Gallagher's Canyone area, with her Dad and her special friend, Shannon until the family was evacuated, all to find themselves at a safe enough distance at my parents' home, also in Kelowna but much further North. All I could do from this distance was watch this website, and the news and be assured by those with her, trusting the firefighters to keep them all safe.
Homes may have been lost, as well as beloved pets, which is terribly sad, but not a single human life has had to be mourned! This is directly thanks to the incredible organization and quick thinking of the leaders, as well as the backbreaking work of each and every fire fighter on scene. Yes, cry for the homes and the pets, but imagine, just imagine how many funerals we could be attending had you not been there, standing on the line, keeping Kelowna truly safe in the context that truly matters.
Thank you for keeping my parents, my daughter, her Dad, his parents, Shannon, all of our friends there and everyone - EVERYONE - safe from the flames!!!!!! You ought to celebrate - if I could hug you each from Calgary, I would!
