Yes I will home bake them, but I'll have my 10 year old help me so they won't be a total loss....
I sure hope he knows how much his neighbours appreciate him. I'm really concerned that he know that his neighbours think he is a real hero !!! And that it really makes us nausesous (sp) to see the editorial comments made to attack him and his abilities in the paper and even today on castanets site... I know there is freedom of speach, but I guess there is no basis for the mentality of some people that write to the editior, I KNOW I'm going to be lamb baisted for that one...
Honestly for along time I hated my place, I mean its riddled with weeds, thistles, and yes those darn stink bugs, not to mention we get snow 2 months longer then anyone else, and then all the tourism traffic that we used to get.... BUT then this fire happened and I have to say I live around some of the best neighbours in the world.... really everyone pulled together for the most part and I've made really close friends from people I barely knew before.... I feel pretty lucky, and despite the scars my property suffered.... I think BECAUSE of the fire, my value of my property just went up.

Ozzy, The machines you hear behind you are for rehab. work. They are putting back together as best they can all the work the MOF did. There are alot of new roads they will be deactivating. As well still removing danger trees. Ya, the MOF dumped on Rick but they needed a scape goat, per say. They were told to smooth things out between agencies and that is what they did. Unfortunate but Rick did the best he could, to get his message across. Some heard, some didn't. Everyone did their best to their ability.

The story on Castanet...
We're Sorry Gerry: Gov't Kelowna Fire Chief Gerry Zimmerman says recent high profile criticism of how his men fought the Okanagan Mountain Park fire had a big impact on morale. Rick Pasutto get plenty of media coverage when he openly criticized some Kelowna fire fighters for allegedly not showing up to protect his home. He even went as far as questioning their courage. "It knocked the hell out us," says Zimmerman. Pasutto works as a private contractor for the Ministry of Forests. The Ministry has offered the Kelowna fire department a formal apology. "Mr. Pasutto spoke as a private citizen and his words do not reflect the views of the forests service," says spokesman Denis Gaudry who was asked to launch an investigation into Pasutto's comments. "It's unfortunate that Mr. Pasutto used his work connection to express his views." In fact, Gaudry says the city actually helped Pazutto build a fire guard around his home. Gaudry adds that Pazutto will continue to work for the Ministry of Forests but he won't be giving any more media briefings.

Well I hope everybody had a wonderful night and look forward to what the papers and the editorials have to offer in the morning. Ozzy, I am sure that Rick will appreciate the cookies, and the statement about your neighbors. g.how's jake??? Drip, if you are into the media, go beyond the Kelowna area. This may be the only way to get any results for this to be a public inquiry. That might help the next time (which I hope never happens) something like this rears its ugly head.

I just once again read the editorial on the castanet site and I am wondering is any one out there has put there two cents in I have three times but they continually put the ones in that put Rick down. Would you please, if you feel strongly about this issue to write in. I want this to go to the press but I am not sure how to get it in there. They (media) seem to think that squashing Rick is a nice thing. Try I would like to see something on the editorial that supports Rick not putting him down.

Write to the Daily Courier, write to the Capital News, use facts, not opinions, be detailed but leave out extraneous and irrelevant material. Better yet, interview Rick, submit your interview to the City Editor of either or both papers.
What works: Facts, details, accuracy, first-hand information, quotes.
What doesn't work: Dramatic statements, hysterical accusations, excessive and unnecessary information.
True, letters filled with the above list of 'what doesn't work' do get published, especially in the Capital Snooze, but you do lose your audience that way and wild speculations, in the final analysis, just don't make a strong point.

Addendum to the above; newspapers are always looking for a good angle. Bottom line, a good story beats all other hands. They want a catchy headline, so give them one. This story went one way, got turned around, and now it can as easily be turned around again. Get an angle, show that Rick got a bum rap, back it up with facts. You'll get your story.

Okay I sent in a short letter to castanet, not sure if it will be printed, really it just boils down to what I said here which is 1. Rick should not be given bad press for what he said 2. Everyone involved did the best they knew how AT THE TIME.... 3. WE MUST MUST did I say MUST take from this experience what we have learned we did right and what we did WRONG.... 4. And that the general public needs to quit armchair quarterbacking/coaching as we weren't there on thursday or friday, and we don't know what happened from either Rick or KFD eyes, thoughts or experiences... 5. And I did say that Rick was responsible for saving probably a good many homes in the june springs area, and for that I am thankfull.
so it wasn't a rick love fest, but its not cuz I doubt his allegations but I wasn't there, so I don't want to pass judgement on something I don't have enough information on.... but I do feel that if Rick felt something had gone wrong, then there is a strong probablity it did, and there needs to be a public enquiry not to lay blame but to learn what we did right and what we did wrong....
