I was reaing Castanet tonight before I headed off to bed... and saw the article on the escaped llama that was on the loose for three days. Then, it was put in custody and is now going to be slaughetered for the local foodbank. Now, this leaves me with two thoughts.... 1. Do you mean there is no one out there who would take the llama? and 2. Would the foodbank still call it llama or pretend its chicken? I suppose the local foodbank, but I also have two llamas of my own. if i knew of a llama who was gonna get killed id take it. I don't think my other llamas would like sharing the food though... I hope this isn't the same way they handle stray dogs and cats. I still want to know why this llama is going to be chopped up and on the grill - After all, its a llama for crying out loud!

I too was shocked to see the article. what kind of condition is this animal going to be in after 3 days on the llam, lol. How many more unfortunate animals (meat) this final solution. Now I'm not a PETA fanatic, but I too think that people should be told what that hamburger really is. Who is slaughtering this animal, and is it being done in an approved abettoir (sp). and butchered in an approved butcher shop? The owner of the animal sure has stirred it up hasn't he?

HA! You make me laugh Laurel, that was funny!!
Regarding the llama - is it common to consume these animals? I've never heard of a "llama burger" before.

I heard some people eat llama before... mainly Alpaca meat. but hey, thats in umm.. South America? heh heh Anyways, geez. Poor little llama... i mean if it went on a rampage and started gnawing on peoples shoulders and chasing after school children then yah, kill it and eat it... (hrmm okay maybe it wouldn't be healthy to eat a meat-eating llama) but still!! That llama looked so cute.. I'd definately take in another llama, hell, we got room! and would give my llama girls company. but eat him?? I dunno about that... would anyone at the food shelter eat this mysterious meat anyways?

I just can't believe it!! Such a cute story, and then kapow! They nail us with what's going to happen to it. Very sad. On the same day the llama was captured, my brother, who was working in an orchard in the area, told me about how "this llama came right up to me out of nowhere and just hung out for a bit while I was working!". 1) I thought of calling and putting up a stink about it, and or trying to adopt it, but, really I can't afford it, and 2) is this someone's idea of a "fantastic" food offering to the food bank? Will it be titled as "The little lost llama meat", or like someone else said here, will it go undetected as chicken or what??

hehe exactly!!! was a cute story and suddenly... the slid in that slaughter subject like it was a tiny little fine print on a contract that says "you soul belongs to me!!" okay, too drastic... but still!!! I CAN afford the llama... i have two of them, and a third one would keep them company, since they are herd animals. the two i have are just for hobby, and i love them dearly. i would totally get this llama but no one made an effort grrr... the llama can't have been rabid for them to kill it, or else it wouln't be eatitable.... and if it didn't do anything it would be eatitable but why not make an effort? maybe it was the owners way of saying: "Gee, thanks mr. policemen for going through all the effort to help me get my llama back.... why, i think im so grateful that i'm going to give you this llama that we all put so much effort into finding and feed all those needy kids down at the food bank. gee golly, i love christmas!" ..... poor llama

Does anyone know if the llama is still with us or JJolly,, It would be great if you could adopt him/her! When my financial situation gets better, I'll try to help with food costs.

lol, i wish i knew!! i e-mail castanet, no reply *whimpers*
and thank you soo much for the offer, nice to know people are willing to help ^_^ but actually hay doesn't cost much, and llamas eat soooooo little. like, one flake a day per llama (depending on the hay). horses can eat like.. 5 flakes.
not a problem at all. I heard a rumour four llamas escaped. anyone know about this?

Hey Jolly, We just have to find the llama! My brother hadn't heard about what the llama's fate was to be, and he says today, that had he known, he would have put a leash on it and taken it home! Err.. umm.. what's a flake of hay? Think I'm going to phone a radio station and see if they know about the llama. At least they answer the phone. (I hope) and won't have to wait around for a %^$# email. ;D I'll be back with any news. Good or bad.
