I've been inidated today with people that I email my daily fire journal to not to stop writing...and that I should try to get it published...there's only so far about 20 pages of writing so not enough for a book... and I'm not looking for money out of it... but...does anyone know any publishers. What about a "coffee table" book. You know the kind with the glossy photo's and such...There were so many incrediable photo's taken during this time, and I'm sure I'm not the only one that kept a journal during this time....put it all together in a nice big book - and sell it with most if not all the proceeds going to some sort of fund.. not nessessarily the red cross or yellow ribbon... maybe to burn victims, or towards a monument towards everyone that suffered or fought against this beast... just an idea... Course I'd want two chapters to myself the first one being my daily journal, but the second chapter titled... 101 uses for stink bugs...

You could self-publish online at cafepress.com. They now offer 3 different types of book bindings, a couple of which might suit your purposes very well. You can set up a free account or a paid account. My Mom has a book she wants to publish as well on a drastically different topic, and the wholesale cost of doing it at cafepress is equal to the cost of spiralbinding at one of the stationary stores in town. Spiral binding is not the binding I'd recommend tho. Check out the other two bindings they have available and I think you might be pleased. Maybe after printing out a few copies this way, you can approach a bigger printing house about a coffeetable style book. Memories are made of these things.

I'd seriously consider CBC Radio One's "Out Front" as a start. I think you have a great idea but check it out while it's timely. Look up the local CBC radio studio, I'm sure they can steer you in some sort of direction. Good Luck, I'll be listening!

I wonder if others have kept a journal too. Maybe several could be put into one booklet???
I think the concept is a good one. Maybe the journal could also have some of the pictures from the fire put into it. The pictures that had the most impact on you and why, both in a good way and in a bad way. I expect your mood had large swings from optimism and then to fear. Maybe you can expand what you have now in your journal by including how you feel now when you read what you wrote earlier.
Asking for suggestions is a great idea. Even a bad suggestion can seed the thought of a good idea.

Good Morning Kelowna!
I've been watching your news (and monitoring this site) since the onset of this ordeal, and I can only speculate about the emotions you must all feel as you begin to see the light at the end of the tunnel. I feel as if I've come to know quite a few of you through your posts, and as a result, my impressions of the events and your community are so much more personal than I would ever have imagined by watching the nightly news.
In response to the call for a publisher...Janet Matthews, author of "Chicken Soup for the Canadian Soul" is currently interested in publishing a book about the B.C. fires in the "style" of the Chicken Soup series. If anyone has a story, or would like to contact her, you may reach her at janet@canadiansoul.com . Janet has close family in Kelowna, and has spent many holidays there. She'd love to hear from anyone interested. So Kelowna, thank you for sharing your thoughts on this site, and for expanding my perspective. I wish you all the best and I will not forget you as you rebuild your community.
Sheila

Dear Ozzie: Hi - my name is Janet Matthews, and I am the co-author of Chicken Soup for the Canadian Soul. Although I live in Toronto, my sister and family live in Kelowna, so I have been following the fires with great interest and care. Because of my background collecting, and editing stories from the heart, I realized there is a book out there that needs to be written. So, for the past week or so I have been negotiating with a BC publisher to produce a Chicken Soup type book - a collection of the uplifiting, triumph over adversisty stories from the fire. We will need lots of help. I Have several people who are interested in helping - but we will need all the help we can get. Please look at your journal entries, and see if any of them can be turned into a story - not an article, or an essay, but a dramatic story with a beginning, a middle and an ending. I"ll be using www.canadiansoul.com to collect stories, so please feel free to go there and read all about what we will be looking for. If you are in doubt - send it anyway. You will be the first!!! The story collection page should be back up and connected by tomorrow. Please tell all your friends and family about this, and post it wherever you can. Thanks so much for your heart and caring - hope to hear from you soon, Warmest regards Janet Matthews Canadian Co-author Chicken Soup for the Canadian soul janet@canadiansoul.com

Janet, holy cow I think something was meant to be here.... cuz I have my journal printed out (tried to even clean up my spelling errors) stapled and in an envelope with your name on it. I have it going to the Lesle Street address, care of Raymond Aaron group - is that correct still.... My only concern, isn't really content, its length - its pretty long - 18 pages one sided, but then alot of those pages are alot of blank space, cuz I did break it down per day. But there is a line on the website I went to "If you fell you have a great story but are unsure of your writing - please don't worry about it - we can always improve upon it." THAT WAS MY SAVING GRACE.... and I decided I was mailing it out.... Even if it doesn't get published maybe you could give me your take on it. I am pretty postive this is not essay written, theres a beginning - ohmygod get the hell outa here... to the end thank god we are home....

Hi Ozzy - well, now that is a co-incidence is it not? Yes, you have it addressed correctly. But I would rather you e-mail it to me. janet@canadiansoul.com Just fire away. I'll read it through and see if there is anything there we can use. Because if there is, then I can avoid re-typing, and go straight to the editing. (I'm assuming this is typed on a computer in a Word program. If you wrote it by hand, God help us both!) Looking forward to it, Warmest, Janet

Hi Ozzy!...I'm sheilalady and I'm Janet's next-door-neighbour! She can't respond at the moment as she's making dinner (lol!). She's asked me (hollered from her deck to mine, actually! ;D) to tell you to send your journal as an attachment! She's looking forward to it! Hope this helps...

Now is your chance Ozzy, with the right response to her question of what are stinkbugs, your yard can be cleared of the little buggers! If they have none back east, lets start exporting them. Hee Hee!

Everyone - this is important, we've heard of FarmAid, and Band Aid and now there is discussion as to Fire Aid - this is very serious... the East is suffering.... we need to have a Stink Aid - gather your stink bugs, by the hundreds, if Sheila hasn't seen one, then I doubt her neighbours have either..... its support a stink.... I plan to suck the lovely apple scented creatures up in a vacuum bag and fed ex the little darlins to Sheila by the end of the day !!!! I went on the web to try to find you an accurate photo, but those aren't even close to the stink bugs we have. Although they have the same legs.... Let me see if I can take a photo of one and email the photo to you tomorrow. They are the size of a pen cap I would say, and about as thick, long bendy legs and antenas. They fly around and when they do they aren't like a fly that can zig zag around, they sound alot like a helicopter and they sorta huver over to the closest landing point (like someones hair) and if they become stressed (yes I can just go on on this one for awhile, stressed bugs..... won't go there) they emit a smell that is SO STRONG... in fact they are the smelliest bug on the planet in comparrison to its size... found out this fact on animal planet station. Some say they stink, some say they smell like bad pine, I say they smell like over ripe apples.... but once you associate the smell with the bug, its nasty....
