i have a friend from kelowna named henry/hank dyck and he brought to my attention the fires raging through the forest park, starting with just tens of hectares, but which has now spread to an alarming thousands of hectares because of the dry condition and the wind factor. on top of it, there are thousands of displaced people. the image, to say the least, is very sad and my heart goes out to everyone involved in the efforts to contain the fires and to ensure the organized management of the victims.
in this regard then, i would like to give my real appreciation to the firefighters, the enforcement officers, the media people, the government officials, the civic-minded residents of kelowna and all the others who have been unselfishly giving something of themselves to reach out and help all those affected, even sometimes risking their lives for the sake of the greater welfare. there is nothing more comforting than knowing that in our times of need, there will always be people who will be there to lend a hand to help out.
