After 9/11, the first comic book to officially deal with those events was Marvel's Amazing Spider-Man. Written by one of today's greatest television writers, J. Michael Straczynski, that issue included the following words (quoted with JMS's permission):
-------------------------------------------------- Also here are those who face fire without fear or armor. Those who step into the darkness without assurances of ever walking out again, because they know there are others waiting in the dark. Awaiting salvation. Awaiting word. Awaiting justice.
Ordinary men. Ordinary women. Made extraordinary by acts of compassion. And courage. And terrible sacrifice. ... Ordinary men. Ordinary women. Refusing to surrender. --------------------------------------------------
I think this applies here just as well... to those fighting the fires and helping others, not just in Kelowna, but in all the fires in BC and elsewhere.
