Is the united States of America "the Land of Liberty and Freedom", and if not why not? Also, what is an American and where did they come from?
Canadians and Mexicans are North Americans, so how do we fit into the world of "apple pie", "Southern fried chicken" and "John Wayne movies?

Ellis Island is the site where many persons came in ships from various European countries such as Russia, Italy, Ireland - However, some went to Canada, while others got no further than London.
Why did they come? New York - London - Montreal What factors caused them to select one place over another?

Also, Halifax was another point of entry for the masses of Europeans that flocked to the shores of North America.
Then there was and is the movement of folks by land to and from Canada - USA - Mexico. Reasons many - e,g, CAJUNS to Louisiana from Nova Scotia, United Empire Loyalists from USA to Ontario, Young americans during the Sixties to places like Grand Forks
The reasons are many - but for some, its likely job related or educational
So, why the Okanagan - was it farming, the fruit industry (peaches to grapes), recreational occupations and opportunities. And why would BC seniors be "Snowbirds" in California, Arizona or Florida.

Regarding the "Freedom" part of the equation:
Does this relate to persons escaping from Religious persecution have come to Canada and the USA for freedom; or does it relate to the fact all persons in Canada and the USA given the fredom to practice their own brand of religion.
However, in the early days of Boston & New York, the Catholic Irish were discriminated by the Protestant Irish, or rather than religion was it the earlier (have) folk trying to keep the poor (have nots) in their place.
Also, persons with Welsh heritage (coal miners & sheep farmers): Some of the Welsh sheep farmers emigrated to Argentina while coal miners emigrated to British Columbia, Canada & various Coal connected areas of The USA such as Pennsylvania.
