It was a relief to be home, spent over an hour and a half sweeping dust bunnies (cement floor) and just getting over the high of being home. (No not that kind of high, or I'd be on the other thread) They ripped a fire line through the back of our property, took out a crap load of trees that lined the Little White Forestry road from our place, so now we have a view of that, they went through our neighbours and our 2nd neighbour away and then it veers off towards the canyon. Hubby thinks of it as a scar, I see it as an area that will now be easier to fence, and they took out my weeds in that area. According to hubby its about 200 feet wide, but in all honesty if we got even close to the fire we did on Friday 22nd then forget it, that fire guard aint going to do squat. The house and barn are littered with stink bugs, who are seeking refuge from their burning homes... so I've decided to call Fear Factor and see if there is any need for the little buggers there.... maybe make some money off of this Dogs are finally eating properly, although son is a bit cranky, but then that would be expected from any 10 year old gypsy. The neighbour was apparently on the front of the courier today, so I'm waiting to get her autograph. Hubby is bound and determined to bring home just two horses tonight, I got him to postpone it yesterday. But he called forestry and a neighbour that has been working the logging line and cut lines since this began to get his opinion. They all say we are on an hour evac alert, but they think as long as we can get the two out and they are easy to load then bring them home. I'm going home after school ends from now on, so I feel semi okay about them going back. Ok you got me I don't feel okay about it, but need to keep the peace... and well you all know some men right !!! It is such a relief to be back, but also a little unnerving to not know why the sudden recall of the evacuation order. Even the police at the road block thought it was a bit premature..... Can't wait to see Gord the neighbour with the three lights, and tell him his lights were the beakon of hope for many.... he'll be thrilled. I've got some of your private email addresses and going to be putting together another email that I will be sending directly to all my "shoulders" that I've definately leaned on all this time. I'll let you all know tomorrow how the horses did on their first night back.

Where are the horses staying? We have 3 horses on our property right now, but ive never seen the owner because the people that rent the house where the pasture is, is looking after it.

Our horses are at our vets in Winfield, and one horse is on his way to Texas - to a show, no we didn't think he should be evacuated QUITE that far! Have the owners of your three come out to see them yet? I would suspect that if they live in an alert area that is still pretty votile, and unless they have a 3 horse trailer, they probably won't be bringing them home yet. We will leave the others at the vets till the alert is taken off an hour....

Thanks for the update, glad to hear everythings ok for now, it sucks about the stink bugs though, have tried to come up with some use for them but the only thing we found is that the flickers love eating the little buggers. Fear Factor might be a good angle.
p.s. might make good book material, possible movie rights - just looking to the future !

Ely - forgive me I'm not working on all my cylinders today - probably not enough sleep, but do you think I should make a book out of stink bugs ? I guess I could write a little chapter on each of their wings, hmmm... or were you talking about writing a book about them... Attack of the smelliest stink bugs.... Or about the whole thing..... hee hee been thinking about it, but no confindence in myself for a WHOLE book - I mean I only have like 18 pages written and the experience is almost over - so I hope - I was hoping for my own email talk show/daily newsletter, but the Oprah people haven't gotten back to me yet.... maybe a gift of chocolate covered stink bugs might change their mind.......

Forget author, go for comedian. No seriously, what I meant was possible book material about your evac and all, not about stink bugs. But if you do one about them, I have a good supply of the smelly critters in case you run out. Keep thinking about jotting down your thoughts. My Dad jotted down a few pages years ago when Winnepeg was flooded, never was published but it is nice to have for the rest of the family.

Thanks El, I've printed off all my copies of emails so far, wouldn't mind finding some others that did the same journalling that I did and approach a magazine or something with the idea of memoires of the fire... or something like that... proceeds of course going to charity.... not looking for cash on this one... if not my family and neighbours have so far enjoyed them.
Well gotta fly, going to pick up my four legged name sake, (Ozzy is my Clydesdale) now and head home... HOME doesnt' that sound funny.
Talk with you all tomorrow... and unlike the other thread about deleting this site, I'm LOOKING FORWARD TO CHATTING WITH YOU ALL TOMORROW !!!!!

Ozzy. Welcome home. When we got the OK to go home yesterday I immediately thought of you getting to go home, funny how these threads bind people. Just thought I would let you know my hubby went up in a helicopter today from Ricks staging, he says things are looking very good. Good luck with your horses, but don't be in too much of hurry to bring them all home. I am still leaving mine in town for another week or so. About that fire break in behind your place, maybe you should let you hubby take out his frustration on it by clearing it and making you a fun galloping track (should be pretty safe on a Clyde). I am keeping a positive outlook about the trails... I really feel they will be better in about 2 years.... lots of roads cut in, and no more bush to get us lost, not to mention the footing will be softer. In the meantime we will a) work on ringwork or b) get fat and lazy. Have a great night.

East Kel Res..... Hubby saw that they have actually taken out quite a wide cut in behind us running up beside the little white service road and through the neighbours across the street from us. Haven't gone on that road yet, don't want to get in the way of the heavy machinery (he had to use the road to get to our back driveway when he was hauling the horse trailer last night) but the way he describes it - really I'm kinda anxious for this fire to be out, and to start trotting up these cut area's on my horse.... although my first concern is when I hear 4x4ers saying that they too can't wait to use the cuts to go 4x4ing.... sorry but at this point anything that can generate a spark, I don't want anywhere near my backyard for awhile, so Im not thrilled to hear them say that. Ozzy doesn't have shoes on so there will be no sparks coming from his hooves. The two we brought home last night settled in remarkably well..... and surprisingly I was okay when they were home. A little concerned about these winds they are calling for, but if it gets too bad, I'm heading home to watch things from there, so if need be I'm walking my two horses out by hand till hubby gets the trailer loaded Sounds like it was another great night, really thrilled to hear that they have it surrounded, but even more glad that they aren't assuming that that is enough and calling it contained. Here's hoping for more rain.....

Hi Ozzy, glad to hear everything is okay at home...Concerning you neighbour Gord and his BIG 3...When this fire finally comes to an end and everybody can breathe a collective sigh of relief , do you think Gord would be willing to flash those lights of his off and on a few times?? It would be a "HURRAY" for all of Kelowna to see. I, for one, would be ;D ear to ear...Take care up there... ;)TB
