Perhaps, are you going to light the match? or are you saying we should use federal and provincial disaster money for something that was not touched by the fire? Hmmm

How about an overpass - one that starts at the Connector & 97 and goes non-stop until it reaches Vernon. Seriously though, a recent study says there will be changes - probably big ones. The study is available by clicking here Transportation and Mobility in the Central Okanagan (43 pgs, 0.3 MB)

As I've stated before on another thread, this is not a forum to discuss the building of a new Okanagan Lake Crossing. I hope the Moderator deletes this thread! My opinion on a new bridge is well-known to local editorial readers: I say let the old bridge rot and be abandoned. Those that choose to live cheaply on the Westside can then either run a ferrry, row a boat, swim, or find employment elsewhere.

As I've stated before on another thread, this is not a forum to discuss the building of a new Okanagan Lake Crossing. I hope the Moderator deletes this thread! Right on man! That's what we need more of here - armchair censorship! There are several soapbox bridge experts wasting dead trees - which one are you? I like the ferry idea - and you can apply for the position of anchor. BTW - There is nothing cheap on the Westside. Drive over there, look, around and you'll see a big lack of[/color] sidewalks, curbs, gutters, sewers, lights, airport and malls paying big taxes to keep residents taxes down, a composit fire department, and a host of other infrastructure and services residents in Kelowna take for granted that the Westside doesn't have including and a government that can manage it's finances honestly, openly, and responsibly. Don't forget, the Westside, until a few short years ago, was rural and is still considered rural by the feds (under 50K population and unincorporated) and is growing by leaps and bounds and like a wildfire, is wildgrowth - uncontrolled, unabashed, and no end in sight. Did you expect the Westside to immediately dress up just to satisfy your analitical mood? Do you still like me? ;D BTW- Better not give out your real name - hide cause ya neran'ta wanna hay them thar Hatfields 'n McCoys a cummin affer ya fer whatcha been jawin on bout them thar Westside yokels.

Let me take a wild guess, Shiva. You live on the Westside, don't you?

And also, Shiva, why should we pay multimillions so your 50K or so can drive (one person per car!) into our downtown. Put 20 lanes across the lake, then what, Shiva? You're still gonna get a bottleneck somewhere! And as soon as the planners put another multiple lane system some greedy developer will put up a strip mall and screw everything up again! More lanes is NOT the answer. Just a question, Shiva...ever hear of Transit?

Let me take a wild guess, Shiva. You do your full share of wild guessing - what would prompt you to ask me to let you do it here?

Shiva: sounds like a pissy place to live, and you say it ain't cheap? Sure looks like it!

there were several times during the recent fire activity where the bridge was so bogged down that the emergency vehicles were stuck on or almost on the bridge. The night of the large evacuation the scene was like rush hour except it was 11pm, people after registering were leaving the area, along with hundreds of looky loos crossing at the same time. When one of the spot fires started on the westside, the forestry response vehicle took 45 minutes to get from Kelowna to the fire out by Traders Cove. Who knows what it would have been like if there was a serious fire on the westside of the lake along with the Okanagan Mountain Park fire. Just my 2 cents worth!

Ely: So put twenty lanes across the lake and see where else the EM vehicles will be bogged down. Some argument!

To Shiva: Shiva: sounds like a pissy place to live, and you say it ain't cheap? Sure looks like it! One gets what they pay for. When you compare Kelowna taxes, and the services and infrastrucure recieved in return and look at what the mill rates are like and same on Westside, it costs more to live on the Westside than in Kelowna, pound for pound. Your distaste and prejudices of the Westside are clear and I imagine everyone is pleased that you keep your armpits on one side of the bridge, not the Westside. It works out well for both - don'tcha think - or don'tcha? You sort of asked where I live - I live in the Okanagan and am not prejudiced over one area or another and don't begrudge anyone (except perhaps you) their reasons or choice of homesteading where they are. I might be moving soon - give me a hint as to which rock you call home so I can avoid it. And - you wouldn't want me for a neighbour - I'd hold your folks responsible.
