If 500 million is enough to send us in to a depression then just imagine what will happen when they mismanage and blow billions on the Olympics.

First off I heard this in a report/forecast by the federal government on the financial state of affairs for the western provinces. It mentioned SARS, Mad cow, the Softwood lumber situation, and the American economy as factors. Then it said that the wildfires in B.C. would send us from recession to a depression. It was on the radio and it wasn't much better in any western province. I asked my financial guy for confirmation. The tax cuts(actually shifts) in favor of the rich and upper middle class have caused a huge shortfall in revenue that was be to used to rationalize more social spending cuts. Combined with the obcession to balance the budget and the promises made for 2010, the wheels have fallen off this strategy. Now our top industry, forestry is in the tank and tourism has been dealt a death blow. Lack of jobs, lack of revenue, and overspending are the indicators that after 2 quarters of recession , what's next?
