There were many new records set this fire season: Most Houses burned; Most Historic Structures burned: Most hectares burned in Kamloops Fire center area; Most money spent; Most people brought in from back east; Most Overtime paid; Most cat guards to rehabilitate; Most containable fires let get away; most people evacuated; etc. Did the drought codes make this the worst fire season ever? Or was it just the worst managed Fire Season ever in B.C.?

Oh, I think we can safely assume the "codes," namely the DMC, DC and FFMC were probably off the map by about mid August. I wouldn't be surprised to hear that the BUI headed into uncharted territory this year... the only real saving grace; the ISI didn't really do anything outside of the norms... The other thing to keep in mind is that we had a relatively wet early spring, which doesn't factor into the FWI, but does contribute to an aggressive green up of the fine fuels. Of course as we head into summer those excessively green fine fuels die and increase the overall fuel load. …one of those things that doesn't get factored into the "Playstation" program.

There is far too much emphasis on the "record" dry conditions.
Two weeks of hot, dry and windy conditions with an abundance of ignitions and this fire season could have been much worse.
The codes and indices surpassed fire suppression technology long before August. The fact that the MOF will likely have an initial attact success rate of better that 90% is remarkable.
Don't let the armchair fire fighters or the suppression industry trying to sell you more of they products tell you anything different.

Not remarkable. B.C. needs to be a leader in fire control, not a follower. Sure I care about people back east too, but we have to train our firefighters here to fight fire here, Ontario and Quebec should do the same. I sure wouldn't want to fight a war with some of these people. And if the indicies are incorrect, what info do you use for making important fire control decissions like burning off?
