On Aug. 16th, did anyone see any fire retardant dropped on the OMP fire in the first 12 hours after lightning ignited a single tree? The air tankers (not the yellow ducks) only had to come from the Penticton airstrip (a few minutes) to establish a retardant guard in an area that is 90% bare rock. Tanker pilots refer to this as a turkey shoot. This fire appears to have "escaped "many months before when the managers planned to save a few dollars and impress us all with their great wisdom by using water delivered from planes from the east. Remember the air tankers (on wheels) only had to come from Penticton. And the people with boats could have gone right up and shot some real good video of the first 12 hours.

Tanker pilots refer to this season as pure revenue. They all know that wheather it was retardant or water, none of it worked or was going to work.
But they would be kept in the air for no other reason but to put on a good show for the public and provide a false sense of security. After the snow flies they'll sip margaritas and say if only we could have had one more drop, or one more tanker, or one more, one more, one more...... it's like a broken record and it hasn't worked anywhere in the world. It just costs the tax payers a lot of money with no long-term results.
The reasonable doubt is that whatever was thrown at the fire would have failed. But you'll never hear the fire suppression industry admit to that. There is just too much money to be had.

Jack Nicolson will play Chief Zimmerman in the Movie. You can't handle the truth. All the retardant in the world won't help if you don't follow it up with mineral soil guard.

I am wondering why there hasn't been much mentioned about the back burn gone sour at Crawford. Speaking of Gone with the wind, from what I understand 68 homes would still be standing if the MOF didn't start a backburn so close to Crawford in such tinder dry conditions. Someone from Crawford that lost their home should be raising some questions regarding this. There MUST be a lawyer amongst you

May have been, I was told that there was a backburn started near Crawford and when the winds picked up Friday Aug 21 then it got away. My question is why would ANYONE start any type of fire/backburn in such tinder dry conditions so close to the city?
