So does someone know if there is a tattle tale phone line for insurance questionable claims.... I have neighbours that are claiming smoke and soote damage... and there is no way I buy it.... our home doesn't even have a proper roof, and it suffered from no such thing, so the only way they could have is if they left all the windows and doors open when they left....
Just think the insurance companies should be questioning this....

Actually from what I've found out it sounds like its the cleaning companies/restoration companies that are raping the insurance company. I'm hearing quotes of 30 000 dollars to take the smell out of houses in my area.... yes thats 4 zero's. Some of the crap I'm hearing is complete assissinine.... as someone that used to work with air born particles, fumes, vapours ect..... in a safety aspect, the things these people are telling these homeowners is nuts.... We have a 200 dollar air purifier in our home... works like a darn, we've had them in barns to take out urine smells.... so its not the infomercial type... but even still most of these homes have wood burning fireplaces, so yep its going smell of traces of smoke when youve been using a fireplace for eions.... Too bad theres no way to morals in the way these restoration companies are operating...

My family is getting our carpets and blinds cleaned and the fire ended just up on the other side of the hill from us. Although there was no damage at all to our home, we lived in a cloud of smoke for one week. We couldn't even see down the street. We woke up every morning with our driveways and cars covered in ash. And although, there ISN'T a strong smokey smell, we are concerned about the ash and other stuff that has made their way into our carpets. It really isn't good to be breathing that stuff in so it is better to be safe than sorry.

Guest, in fact I have been in there homes, and I've also heard from others that really they COULD live there they just chose to stay at fancy hotels... and as you see at my last post alot of the blame should be going to the cleaning companies.... I heard that one company said that the family should go into their attic, take a baggy open it up and then seal it and if they bring it into their living room where there is no smell then they would be able to smell smoke..... what a load of horse apples that is.... first thats not possible, and second if their attic which is just a crawl space with the required air ducts is the only thing that possibly smells like smoke, why would they need to rip out their drywall in the rest of the house... cuz of the possiblity of contamination... I'm not doubting that some people out there are effected by smoke and soote - I'm saying there are others that aren't and are either themselves defrauding the insurance companies, or their choose of cleaning groups is making false claims of contamination.

Hey ozzy,
Why are you sticking your nose into someone else's business? What they are doing doesn't really concern you and although what they are doing might be wrong, do you really want to make enimies with your neighbours?
You are going to be one of those old people who snoops around in other people's garbage because you have to know everything that goes on around your neighbourhood.
If someone has insurance to get things done, who really cares. Maybe they have allergies and everything has to be dust free.

Actually Joe Schmo my problem isn't with my nose its the fact that what I see happening is called, hmmm.. lets see if I remember the name... oh yeah ILLEGAL !!! Scamming the insurance companies doesn't just hurt the insurance companies it hurts me too !!!! So sorry if my neighbours aren't going to do the right thing, then frankly they deserve to be caught. AND if you had noted I relized that for the most part it isn't my neighbours that are scamming the insurance companies its the cleaning restoration companies... 30 000 dollars to clean MINIMAL smoke damage... sorry not even damage... odor.... that is robbery....

I have to agree with you Ozzy! I had house fire last year. The fire was IN my house and it was billowing smoke from the windows and doors. My entire main floor was engulfed in smoke and soote and was redone by the restoration company. It took them 2 1/2 weeks to clean the 2200 square feet and we had to move out again. The final bill was $14,000.00 I have heard that some companies are quoting $30,000 and have told the people the it would take them 3 days to clean! I think not. Most of their houses are more than 2200 sq ft.!!!! The price I can almost believe.

Mad Max was banned, but Ozzy is. Mad Max was asking where she was....If he/she was banned he wouldn't be able to post on the board asking where she is. Please re-read my post.

Oh I understand what you were trying to say.
When you wrote "Madmax...she was banned from this site" I read it as "Madmax was banned from this site".
What you meant to say was "Mad Max, Ozzy has been banned that's why she can't post back to you."
After thousands, of posts by hundreds of readers between the fire and now, only five IPs have lost the privilege of no longer reading or posting here. The username Ozzy is not among them. However, it is possible that the Ozzy could be on one of the five in the IP banned list.
As you know, from the other postings in evidenced here, we have a fairly liberal policy here to promote discussion. However, for the benefit of the board, obviously we will not stand for "potty talk", blatent use of this board to promote services or products, or users that seek to harm the board or its members.
In summary, we want this to be a safe place to share your views, and respond to other's views.

it makes sense and I understood it and if Mad Max read it he/she probably would too. I don't necessarily have time to spread out my posts at certain times....so the fast posts have gotten me by until now. As for the postings I am going to stay out of that as I explained to you via email as to what I felt...no need to bring it here.
