This is the first time i have been on this site...However i find thermaguy's comments interesting. The government did in fact have other imaging of the fire, and tell with what enrgy it was burning in kilowatts. Unfortunately this is another case of someone complaining before they no the true situation. This is how rumors get started, and part of the reason the ministry of forests is tahing a beating from the public

And to Frank Hilliard..First frank...have you ever fought a real fire??? Once again it sickens me to see people post such convoluted information. The Ministry of Forests Protection Branch DOES fight fires at night... And don't try to discredit me. I am a Crew Leader for the Penticton Initial Attack Crew. And I have fought many a fire through the night. The lightning stike that started the Fire hit at approx 2:30 or 3:00 a.m. My roomates were dispatched to the fire at first light to attack the fire approx 5:30. How is this 8 hours?? Now how does frank expect these people to reach this fire with all of their equipment??First they need to boat accross then scramble over cliffs and ravines with gear in the dark...I don't think so......this is not safe. There is no point in putting people in front of a fire until equipment can be brought in to support...I should remind everyone that there were no serious injuries during this horrible event (and in my mind 1000 burnt houses are better than one dead firefighter). Not to mention this wasn't the only thing going on at this time...Does Frank know that there was another large fire burning near Chute lake Lodge...that required resources...At times like these choices must be made....where do we focus resources...near the populated area of chute lake lodge...to try and save structures...or should we forget about that and just worry about fires that the general public see. I get so frustrated when i see uninformed opinions expressed in the media about my coworkers and I

about the middle of the fire and Yes I do believe that he has a background in fire fighting...he brought up many points that for the average person was answers to many of our questions that were going unanswered at the time....he however does not stand for what all people honestly believe or have seen....I believe knowing the terrain in the OMP fire that the terrain was much to rocky and steep to get people in there immediately....as for the fire hazard...there have been 5 fires in the park since mom and dad have lived up there and NOBODY, NOBODY expected it to get this far unless you were someone who actually lived fire/s and put them out in the ministry...the average JOE BLO so to speak have seen many fires in our area.... Personally I agree with some of what he has said and disagree with others...because I saw with my own eyes what he is saying didn't happen...There were so many fires that happened this past summer that trying to please every person would be impossible to do...With parents that lost their retirement home it is a tough one to see them cope but knowing so many firefighters we know they gave it their all....you are told what to do and there was no so called protocol set up for something such as this..size........ I would love to be selfish and say yes...why did the Chute Lake Lodge get president over the hundreds of homes? ?? I could say It can be rebuilt just like a house can....You see something for which you can relate to like the lodge...which by the way we spent MUCH TIME UP THERE....and it actually was the deciding factor for mom and dad's log home they built when moving from Trumpeter Road out to Timberline Road.....We see their hopes their dreams go up in smoke....Not just theirs but many other's too... By all means this does NOT take away from the importance of their home, their retirement and the fact that they didn't think they could rebuild either....I know of many that I have kept in touch with who are litterally out on their ears so to speak because they can't rebuild or have been displaced from the fire due to a rent to own agreement which was considered nil and void when the house burnt....so their years of work on this home and the money invested is gone...they have nothing. So when you ask someone who has been burnt out or closely affected by the fires I am sorry to say...don't let ANY of them burn....UGH..i know you guys tried your hardest....Just my two cents worth

The fire was reported within minutes of the lightening strike that started it. It was more than several hours later before any response showed up. In spite of the fact that 3 water bombers sat on the tarmac in Penticton, none were deployed.
When Jean Cretien appeared at a press conference at the Ramada Inn, here in Kelowna, a question was put to him; "Would the federal government invoke the powers of the Federal Reserve Bank of Canada and issue interest-free money to aid in fire relief?"
Cretien answered, "No; we don't do things (tings dat way) that way anymore."
Isn't it odd that when we, the citizens suffer the worst from failing economies, banks record record profits.
