I don't mean to pour pudding on your parade, but I'd really like to find out where all the collected money is going. All I hear about is to"the fire victims".
Please don't get me wrong. There have been some tragic losses here. But would you think most if not all the Kelowna victims had insurance. If they didn't by choice well, that was their choice and now they will pay. I don't exactly support bailing out those who have saved themselves the premiums for how many years. Although we can't mix sentiment and dollars, a lot of the houses were near new so I can't see alot of emotional baggage associated with them. Social Services picked up the tab for the evacuees and most insurance companies provide living expenses to some degree. The federal and provincial governemnts have said they will be kicking in to cover shortfalls. There are a whole bunch of hats being passed around but where is that money to be spent? Who decides? Is it to reward the underinsured? Does it go into a pot for the next disaster so the hat doesn't have to be passed? I doubt it. The firefighters are being paid. So are the police, contractors, military and most others (except volunteers, but that's what makes them "volunteers").
Please forgive any poor choice of words. I don't mean to be undiplomatic in a politically correct forum. I simply would like to know where all the donations are to go?

If you haven't heard the Fire Budget for B.C. was $2 Billion i believe, and right now they have spent 6 times that. Also I believe that if you lost your house you would be looking for a little compensation for your house, belongings, memories, and troubles. I live in Surrey, but i was up in kelowna for a week a few days after it started and it was bad my aunt and uncle got the evac order and it wasn't a very happy time loading up the truck getting ready to leave. You might want to look in the long run, people will be without homes for a while and I am nto 100% on this but where are all the children going to school now that they have no home and possibly no school also?? If you are such a smart money efficent guy why don't you go work for an insurance company or the government?? I personally think that is the stupidest question aside from the guy who asked where the money for the September 11 tragedy went. Might wanna keep your comments to yourself from now on.

Sorry Quade from Surrey. I didn't mean this post to inflame a personal attack, especially when the ammunition you use is both flawed and rants on a digression away from the points raised.
I live in Kelowna and have watched this fire burn since the day it started. I have family who have been evacuated from their home and home based business (no compensation) and have 2 friends who lost their homes.
The province has spent a little over $200 million on fire suppression so far this year, hardly the 12 billion you mention. That would equal the entire gross revenue of both the mining and tourism sector of the province.
The "fire victims" are not the provincial government. This donated money is intended for the people with losses after all other sources have been exhausted. My point is simply that there may be few shortfalls left.
Anyway, this forum is to thank the firefighters and others who have helped in this battle. I didn't realize I was in this forum when I posted it and thought I was in the General Discussion forum. Sorry all.
If the Moderator is reading this could you PLEASE REMOVE OR MOVE IT TO THE GENERAL DISCUSSION page. Let's leave this page for what it was intended.
Oh and Quade from Surrey. You might "wanna" come to that forum to read other comments that objectively question some of what has gone on here. Or better yet, leave your comfort zone and your employment to come up here and volunteer at the Evac Center at Parkinson Rec Center as I do to help the evacuees.
