The Westside is BC's largest unincorporated area with 30,000 in population.
The benefit of the current state of affrairs is lower taxes compared to Kelowna. But with low taxes come "low" levels of government service. Some say that this summer's fires underline the importance of retooling goverance on the Westside to beef up services and infrastructure.
What to do think?

with many westsiders living within 10 minutes of downtown kelowna and enjoying the parks, boardwalk's library's, and cultural event,s kelowna has to offer why-not share in the cost to maintain these amenitis.I'f we all lived outside the legal tax boundaries who would pay for these? Firefighting and policing should be addressed soon, without these services how are westsider's going to get house insurance? especially in light of recent disaster.Amalgamate to keep cost down or you soon won't be able to afford to live in Louie's Oasis.

Very Good point sheera! Maybe a few honest realtors(?) should point out this very neglected issue, to potential buyers.

When we have a bridge with ten lanes I'm sure the Westside properties will sell like hotcakes. Just be prepared for a delay when you approach Abbott St.
