please think twice about it. I was using the shopping as an example...for your information I HATE shopping...and no I don't feel that building a 10million dollar bridge is for my shopping experience...but for the safety of others on the Westside, accident victims on the Coquahala(sp) comming from ambulance, for tourists and for our general economy. As for your comment about the smog clearing my head I actually have severe issues with smog with my allergies and asthma...so guess what...I moved here for the safety of my family the smallness of the city and for the beautiful scenery...do you really think that I am out to wreck that for my SHOPPING...oh ya have I told you lately how much i HATE shopping. I want Kelowna to stay green...building a new bridge isn't going to slow the growth of Kelowna down or deter anyone from comming to Kelowna but it will definately make it much more predictable for people living here and visiting as well as safer for those who need it in an emergency situation...such as a car accident or needing to get to the hospital. The bridge is falling apart and we need something to replace it. Why degress in technology and have to go around the lake? when we just have to spend some money to build a new bridge...have you priced out what a new road on Westside road would cost to accomodate major highway traffic comming from Vernon ect would cost...especially being as they would have to blast ect to make it wide enough and safe enough to go around. So may I suggest not writing nasty notes to people via IM....post it on the board for all to see....and not make it a personal attack for an example.

Shopping?? bad example. How will 5 lanes of traffic improve the pollution level in Kelowna??? Where will all those cars go when they get across the bridge. It will be one big bottle neck in the center of the city or maybe on Pandosy in front of the hospital. I can not see how that would help in an emergency . More roads on the westside or a new bridge is not the answer. we have to reduce the numbers of cars on the road. Maybe improve the mass transit system. One full bus would take 40 cars off the bridge. Cheaper better for our enviroment and would leave a lane open for any emergency.

will make travelling easier for those already on the bridge...we have bottlenecks already in the city due to the lack of room on the bridge...it will actually help get rid of the troubles we have already. As far as mass transit...I am sorry but that is not feasible for my family...I would be paying more for travelling with 6 in my family....do the buses leave at 4:30am when hubby has to be at work....are they ever on time? I go green whenever I can, I recycle, I make sure my vehicle is in good running order and emmissions are low...so as far as going green I go as green as I can without compromising our need for having a larger vehicle...Can you fit $300 worth of groceries on a bus??? There is unfeasabilties with your theories too....But a new bridge is something that in my mind is a high priority. Mass transit is great in theory but have you taken a look or ridden on an on time bus lately? Have you seen the lack of buses on the Westside??? People who ride the buses are usually not people who are worried about getting to work early, who do alot of shopping with families, who are actually concerned about time frame. I am sorry but with buses not allowing strollers on them having twins is a real hassle as they need strollers. I think it is great for the buses now to have bike racks so that you can take them with you to complete the journey to work or school but if you read the paper on go green day last year it actually took some of the people at city hall a full hour and 1/2 more time to get to work to hit the transit times and ride...I do not in one day have 3 hours to waste to get back and forth to work and to deal with the delays of our city transit. We would need alot of work done on our transit system and would need to spend alot of money to get more stops and longer hours...add that all up and you have half dozen of one with a new bridge or six of another with trying to get a transit system that is reliable and dependable. Ask transit riders who take the bus as to how reliable they are... your idea is great in theory or in a big city where everything is so close together but with the demographics of our fine beautiful city being spread all over the feasability drops drastically for time, the bridge and rider participation. Okay I will give you the going over to westside shopping was a bad example but it was one that many people can relate too. So with all that being said...try and pry people's vehicles out of their grasps...we are not going to get rid of them ever....when you are tied to appointments, kids running back and forth and so on...I would rather not have to rely on a bus to get me to and from the school to pick up my kids and so on...so I will not get rid of my vehicle...so in my eyes bridge it is...no bus for me......

No I never tried to get $300.00 dollars worth of groceries on to a bus. Does anyone have to drive across the bridge to get there groceries ???NO. I have also been out at 4:30 in the morning and have never had a problem with traffic anywhere in Kelowna. Again I am not attacking you personally. I don't use the bus for special trips or whenI go shopping either. Travelling to work though works great I know the schedule and exact route and stops. Easy to plan on what time to leave the house. I never said we had to give up using our our cars and of course the bus system will never replace them but we can greatly inprove the system. How to do that I admit would be difficult at best. Maybe a special routes taylored to the daily commuter. Reduced travel time and increased the frequency would be a must. What will happen in the interm while they build this bridge. Where will all the traffic go. I know if we had a good mass transit system in place and people used it we would not be complaining about the delays on the bridge. Again more roads and more cars are not the solution. Look at places like Los Angeles Bangkok even Vancouver. I am sure we can do better.
