No, I don't mean why are we here on Castanet. I would like to see some serious feedback, share your philosophy, what are your views. Its time for a philoshophical discussion.
Why are we here on this planet?
With all the challenges we face, the sorrows, the fear, the horrible things that happen to our fellow human beings.
But in the midst of all this, there are such immeasurable joys that we have in our lives, and share with those we love. That wonderful feeling of satisfaction we feel for our accomplishments, overcomming obstacles, the successes of our offspring.
What do you think?

I agree that it would be okay for us to have an open discussion of why we are here. However, are we all capable to have a detailed discussion over an extended time period without disagreements exploding into a "thread war".

The question is straight forward enough and quite inarguable from the perspective of the the teller of the tale. In other words, how one sees "why are we here?" may be Unique to them and either right nor wrong, it is their perpective.
I find it odd that before the topic gets a chance to take wing there is a could of doubt cast upon the topic.
As for me, I can't say with any certainty why we are here.
Isit a cruel joke ? or perhaps an opertunity to progress beyound pettyness
Or maybe it a some religions claim, to learn a lesson before moving on to an advance plane

So let us give it a try, and see how far we can carry the thread.
For all the members that are lurking but not posting, it is a chance to say something
Why are we here and that means the human race - the subject is deep, and I'm unable to offer a viable explaination. And how fate effects us all in a different way - some live long and prosperous lives, while others just fade away.

Why we are here? Much of how we see ouselves, family and neighbors is shaped by our early childhood.
The following is the first of a five paragraph piece that I did about a year ago. Even in the space of a short time span, we are shaped by our immediate environment:
It was a far cry from the "penny for the gas meter", but one warm memory after my arrival in Canada was going for a ride with the local "iceman" while he delivered the blocks of ice from house to house. Or do you remember hearing the clip clop as the rag and bone man travelled down some long forgotten lane in London Town.

>>> Much of how we see ouselves, family and neighbors is shaped by our early childhood.
While this is true, we are all given opporyunities to rise above, or fall below, our early childhood training. We have the intellect, the gift of reason, in order to continuously better ourselves.
So often, I think these "gifts" are wasted on mankind. We seem to be more animals, than the animals of this great earth.

Woof! ;D Anyway,I have often thought at great length about that question. Are we her because as organisms we advanced further. If so,how and it still dosen't answer why. Are we here because God was lonely? Still dosen't answer why, really. Was it a big bang that just happen to spread the right number, type, proportion of molecules to generate just the right conditions to grow a human.(starting with,of all things,an ameoba.)Its hard to believe that we are all descendants of a blotch of goo in a mud puddle.(or some think). Possiably the question can't ever be answered, for to answer that question would render the whole thing useless.Sorta like knowing the yest before you write it,or knowing the end of a great novel before you read it. Well, thats my say. Oh,by the by,i will vote for myself as the grumpy one. ;D
