On this past Friday we shattered old records, and Castanet.net had an estimated 244,000 visits. That is almost 10 times our old record. There are not even 244,000 people living in Kelowna!
So if you are not all from Kelowna, then we are interested to know just where it is you are from.
If your location is not specifically listed in the poll, then vote for your general area, and leave us a message to tell exactly where you do live.
Thanks a lot, and keep tuning in to Castanet.net for all of your latest fire coverage!

Kelowna - I might be responsible for 50% of the hits!! great coverage with immediate updates. I do have a question regarding the time zone used on these boards. Obviously not Kelowna time. Makes it confusing when reading some of the posts. Thanks for your worthy efforts.

It should be Kelowna time...is anyone else having problems with that? The first day or two that this board was up it was a few hours off, but I fixed that on the weekend.

I'm from Vancouver, although I lived in Kelowna for 5 years up until last spring. A friend gave me this website for updates. Lots of friends in Kelowna, many evacuees...My thoughts are with everyone.

I'm from Peachland and maintain a small local website for Peachlanders at okpeach.com The hits to my site have increased alot also, so I've placed a large banner link back to Castanet because you guys are doing an incredible job with keeping us updated! I wanted to say thanks for all your excellent coverage, and silk.fm because I listen to them all the time! Everyone is pulling together and doing a wonderful job whether volunteers, firefighters, and the army. As with everyone else, my prayers are for everyone affected, and our firefighters... and more prayers for a nice steady downpour of water to help us out of this devastation. Once again.. Thanks Castanet for all your hard work!

Hi - actually, the time on the posts (at least on my computer) is 3 hours in advance of Kelowna time. Thanks again for the great job you are doing.

I am born and raised in Victoria, lived in Kelowna for 2 years then Penticton for 3 then Naramata for 5.
I am now back in Victoria but still consider the OK to be home and am waiting for the day that I can move back.

Is there a slick way to respond to the poll, or is this it?
If this is it, rest of Canada. Edmonton AB. My folks lot has been identified by the city. But... it shows up as not having burned on the termal maps and Mom and Dad and a Brother inlaw say they saw the front of the house. Maybe without roof. So it's possible the firefighters put it out at some point. We might be lucky and have some items that survived.

I am in Calgary now but was raised in Okanagan Mission. Many friends and family members are being directly impacted by the fire and I am thankful to have Castanet as a link to what is going on there. Prayers to everyone. Please rain!!!

Sitting in Victoria right about now... Was in K-town visiting family last week when the fire started, but left when they were evacuated; they all jumped in the motorhome with pictures, documents, the laptop and whatever they could grab in a hurry, and headed to Mabel Lake for the time being where they report clear skies, good air, and so-so fishing. Apparently a fair amount of K-town evacuees as well. I am in complete awe of this; wondering if I can ever take my children to feed marmots in Bertram Park, or if we can hike along the trestles, or pick fruit in the South End, or have them experience at least some of my childhood... A huge part of our lives has literally gone up in smoke, and to what end? When I left it just didn't feel right. As though I was betraying our fair city in a way -- bound by helplessness I suppose, a sentiment I am sure is the widespread norm. Best fo uck, kids... Best of luck.

Past Kelowna & Naramata resident now living in the West Kootenay's. Know tons of folks living in affected area. Cannot believe this has happened to you. It could so easily happen here as well. Wish I could buy every fire fighter out there a pitcher of beer.

We are from Nelson and have family and friends in the Kelowna area. We were visiting Peachland when this fire started and watched it spread. We couldn't believe what we saw! We have been logged onto this website ever since. We have also told everyone we know to check it out. This website is awesome and we really appreciate all the hard work of keeping us informed. Thank you. We too have many fires in our area, but not as devastating as yours. We can also appreciate the hard work and dedication that the firefighters have given as our daughter is one of them fighting in our area. We pray for rain soon, and lots of it.
