I live in Lethbridge AB and spent the 70s in Kelowna. My sister, her husband and four kids were evacuated from Black Mtn. Thanks to casanet for the excellent coverage - you really helped ease my feelings of helplessness!!

And my family as well. My parents lost their home on Wednesday night alot with 14 others and that was just the beginning. If it wasn't for Castanet we would have been in the dark. They have pics on here of mom and dad's house and it was nice to see it before actually being allowed up there. They are still not allowed up on Timberline but here is hoping it is soon. Then they can move on with their lives.

Kelowna - I might be responsible for 50% of the hits!! great coverage with immediate updates. I do have a question regarding the time zone used on these boards. Obviously not Kelowna time. Makes it confusing when reading some of the posts. Thanks for your worthy efforts. TEXTTEXTTEXTYES WHAT'S WITH THE TIME???

I'm from Summerland but I lived in Penticton during the Garnet fire and my heart goes out to all affected in Kelowna. Thanks Castanet for this site. I have family in Kelowna and this site has helped keep both of us informed.

From Coquitlam on the coast: friends and family in the area, even if I didn't know a soul there, my heart would still ache for all of you. "Good on Ya" to all who are fighting the flames. volunteering, medical staff, RCMP, Military etc...give yourselves a pat on the back, I know for some these are your jobs, but must say, you are going above and beyond in my book! I was in Kelowna visiting my folks when the fire started. I left on the 17th to come back to Thompson, MB. Hats off to castanet.net. They've been keeping me well informed.

Elsewhere in Canada...Hamilton Ontario
Thank you so much for this site. My best friend and her family live in Kelowna, and I have been monitoring this site constantly, for updates on their welfare. In order to not tie up your phone lines any more than was necessary, I would check the site for information. I knew she was back in her home and that it was still standing before she phoned me, thanks to you.
My admiration and respect for your firefighters is enormous. As the sister of a firefighter, I understand how proud you must be of the men and women who are working so tirelessly on behalf of their city,
Kelowna is a beautiful city, and your community will survive and become stronger as a result of this ordeal.
Know that others, some of us far away, care and are with you in thoughts and prayers

Hi all,
I'm from NZ, visiting and I've sent the link back home so friends & family could see for themselves what's been happening and that I'm alright and not in any danger from the fire.
It's been a great way to share this experience with them and has helped them understand what I've seen.

Living in Coquitlam. Born in Summerland and raised in Kelowna. All my family is still there. Brothers and extended family evacuated, but all returned home safely. Cousin a little too close to the fire, but her home made it - SOOTY - but intact!

I have been checking in at least twice a day... last weekend it was more like every hour or two to find out what was going on... I am currently living in Michigan, (still Canadian though) I was in Kelowna at the beginning of August for my favourite cousins wedding, she gave me your web site so I could calm down and stop worrying about her. (she lives in Westbank)
Thank you so much for keeping me up to date, between the forums, the chat room, and the site I found more information than I could on the Canadian national sites. What a fantastic job, the staff at Castanet deserves medals for this last week.
